Before I get going on why you'll like this wine, let me first state that I buy much of my wine at CostCo in Scottsdale. They have an expanding selection of wine typically priced several dollars per bottle less than just about anywhere else.
So, let's talk about Kim Crawford Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Currently, they're selling the 2004 vintage, but we've been enjoying this wine since discovering the 2002.
It's a thrifty buy - so much so that you might think it can't be very good. But trust me, your red-wine snob friends will like it because it's not Chardonnay, and your Chardonnay-hound friends will like it because it's refreshingly different.
Like most Sauvignon Blancs, it is unoaked. It has a crisp, herbal character that goes well with lighter fare - especially seafood (probably not salmon, though). It is light and can be enjoyed by itself as well.
Many of the Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand are quite good, and you can get them for reasonable prices.
